Two Apps Using Fake Notifications as Scroll Bait

Two apps are faking “oops” notifications as scroll bait.

Two Apps Using Fake Notifications as Scroll Bait

We’ve seen this trick print before with couple apps like Widgetable. You’re watching a normal “demo”… and then a notification pops up that looks like it was NOT meant to be posted.

But the format can easily translate to any app out there.

Take Symmetry, the Spanish workout app instead of a “toxic situationship” notif… it’s a breakup text landing mid-set.

They posted one 3 days ago on a two picture slideshow and it pulled 445k views:

“In the middle of my hardest set, this hits my phone… what do I do now?”

And the key detail: both videos still keep a clean CTA.

  • Widgetable → they’re showing widgets on the lockscreen
  • Symmetry → the “notification” is the product too: it’s the app popping up like your trainer/coach mid-workout (“download Symmetry, it keeps you locked in”).
