The Language-Test Format Behind 26M Views

A language app built a 26M view content machine by turning every video into a comprehension test.

LangAI found a format that feels like a fun comprehension test to determine your language proficiency level.

Across its English and German pages, the app has generated 26M views by repeating nearly the same video structure over and over.

The setup barely changes. On the English account, a simple animated character stands in front of Big Ben. On the German account, a blond character stands in front of the Brandenburg Gate.

Then the hook appears: “IF YOU CAN…”

From there, the video becomes a challenge: if you can understand all of this text, your English or German is at a certain level. The character then launches into a longer monologue in the target language, with subtitles, usually a self-introduction or a short story.

The best-performing video so far hit 4.2M views on TikTok.

A sharper variation has also worked well on Instagram: the C3 version, where the character uses absurdly difficult vocabulary and expressions that almost nobody uses in real life.

Those videos create a second layer of engagement because viewers start debating the words in the comments, joking about them, or calling out how impossible the level sounds.

That is where the format gets stronger.

It works as a challenge, a lesson, and a comment magnet at the same time.

The weak point seems to be conversion. A clearer CTA at the end would likely help.

The attention is there. The product push is still too light.
